Art Instruction Schools Review – Can You Draw This?

A few years ago, when I was teaching engineering at Iowa State University, I asked for a small test that would get me into art education school. I passed the test, but I never heard from the school just north of I-35.

A few years ago I took the test again. I passed again. nothing happened. I looked it up on the internet and called the school. The school sent me some information but no way to sign up for the course. One day, I got a call from a man who lives in Tule, Utah. He said he would come see me and start painting to see what I could do. A week later he showed up with a battered old car, said it covered most of the western states, and asked if he could afford the course.

Putting all that trouble behind him, he looked at my drawing. I asked, “Do you think I can learn to paint?”

He saw my landscape painting on the wall of my house. Finally he said, “Yes, you can learn to paint.”

I wrote him a check for the 3 year course and he advised me to pay by the month and gave me some tips for painting. course.

I have completed the course except for the final exam which I have not taken yet. Here are my impressions:

1. It cost me about $3,000, although the cost is very reasonable for what I received. However, if that is a factor, you can pay by the month.

2. Each lesson is in a separate book. At first he gets one book at a time, except the first time he gets two lessons. I have found that sometimes I have to wait a little longer than I want to wait for my lessons to come back. However, nearly all lessons were returned within his 30 days. There were longer delays due to artists being on maternity leave, including one of my email instructors. Instead of 3 years he asked to have the lessons sent in advance so he could complete the course within 18 months. I took my last lesson in one big bunch. This is not a good idea – before starting a new lesson it is advisable to review the grades and criticisms from the previous lesson – but I am an old man with a pig aortic valve and time is for me It’s precious.

3. Each lesson is very comprehensive. You can see examples of great artists, other students, and lecturers from art education schools. Each technique is explained clearly and professionally. Each lesson has exercises that must be completed. Finally, create your assignment and submit it for grading.

4. What surprised me was that every completed lesson with the final drawings submitted was not only graded, but drawn by a grading instructor. This is very important because you are shown how things should be done rather than criticized. with helpful comments to help master the subject at hand. Either way, my job looked like crap alongside that of an instructor.

5. I didn’t speak to the instructor until I was familiar with the course, even though I was advised to do so in every lesson. It was a missed opportunity. When I actually called them, I noticed that the instructors at the art school had a wealth of knowledge. I have never been kicked out by a busy instructor. I was always given as much time as I needed and then some. The instructor is a talented artist and a great teacher.

6. I met only one student during the course. He is an American Indian living on the Blackfoot Indian Reservation not far from me. He is a very talented artist and I couldn’t understand why he was taking this course. He said one thing he learned from this course (he’s behind me) is patience. i have to agree with that. Art takes time and you need to give your brain a break to do it right. School always tells you not to rush your work. For me, it’s a big deal. I bought an ink painting from a young man. He asked for his $20.00 and I offered him his $10.00. He had a date that night so I took it. I enjoy painting so much that I decided to borrow that $10.00 from him. I’ll bring it to him the next time I pass that road.

7. My drawing doesn’t compare to my instructor’s, but I was able to maintain a ‘B’ average throughout the course. For that, I received a special certificate for each lesson segment, showing that I did an above-average job. I only got a “C” and an “A” rating a few times.

8. The most interesting lesson for me was the use of color. I now only blend the three primary colors of the landscape and rarely look for a specific color in the tube. But the emphasis in the course was on drawing. If you can master drawing, you will become a much better painter not only by the accuracy of your drawing, but by seeing tones, light and shadows, and textures.

9. As I progressed in my studies, I realized that I hadn’t fully mastered the previous lessons. I was constantly checking what I did, what the instructor did, what the lesson told me to do. As usual, I was in too much of a hurry. I am goal oriented. I pick up my textbook and say, “I have to put this baby in there.” That’s the wrong approach. Please take 3 years.

10. Composition, design, lettering, etc. are some of the many skills taught in the course. This company was started by him in 1914 to train artists for the United States Mint. When I was commissioned to design stamps and received stamps for the teachers, I knew the school’s history was still very clear. I am proud of my stamp and his wife loves it too. I also liked the artist’s daughter-in-law (very polite). But the instructor’s stamp with my design was amazing.

The school is said to have about 5,000 students. They are choosing who to enroll as students, largely because they can afford the cost of the course, but without the ability to learn to win the hearts of old car gentlemen, you might as well. No. Accepted.

Have I gotten off the course I wanted? All I wanted was to improve the landscape. However, since I entered the course, I have taken only a few landscapes. But I know the scenery will be much better after the course. There are no other courses. If they offered a specific course in landscape painting, I would take it.

Our school has famous alumni. Charles Schultz, of Snoopy fame, was an alumnus and an instructor at the school. Yes, I had a manga lesson and loved it. He in my cartoon can see one, but I’m not allowed to tell you how to find it on the internet. It would be a self-assertion.

The basic art course at the art school is Handinger!
