Do We Watch What We Eat or Eat What We Watch?

It’s the best of times, It’s the worst of times. On the one hand we have people starving themselves to get to zero and suffer from bulimia and anorexia and on the other we have false propaganda to promote “self confidence” broken with people now standing beside, not against obesity. From Kim Kardashian showing off her medically enhanced assets to the trending thigh holes, the media is full of such differences.

Here’s why fast food is bad:

The first basic necessity for a human being is health. In the old days people lived for more than 100 years in good health, but apparently that is not the case these days. In fact, fast food has been very fattening. The production process involved in creating fast food added a lot of grease and fat content to the food. They are fast, but at the same time they destroy our health faster.

If we have good health, we can earn anything in this world. So it is good to be health conscious. Junk, it means something extra. junk food is a high-calorie, good-tasting food with less nutritional value. But if you’re health-conscious and worried about how the food you eat might be secretly harming your body, here are the 10 compelling reasons to back off from junk food.

1. Junk food causes obesity.

High calorie content, unhealthy fat.. All this is extra empty energy. Something extra will definitely sit on your hips. It will not allow you to fit into skinny jeans. Currently, we see 1 in 10 people overweight. Extra calories in a junk food lead to epidemic obesity. It is very easy to gain weight but it is really difficult to reduce the same. Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to such an extent that it can have a negative impact on health, leading to reduced lifespan and/or increased health problems. High bad cholesterol levels in our body are difficult to cut down. Normally, high calorie content will not be broken down by enzymes in our body. If it remains unbroken, it is again a dead energy. Here we can understand one thing that a beginning of a disease is simply the dysfunctionality of enzymes in our body. Even after knowing why should we give place to such sufferings? Our health in our hands. Avoid junk and stay healthy.

2. Increased sugar level.!

Fast food preparation units add artificial sweeteners to our food. It may give the desired taste, but it is absolutely unhealthy. Anything artificial does not fit the human body so easily. The reason is twofold: Loading up on sugary junk food tends to lead to weight gain, which is a risk factor for diabetes. Second, sugar-laden drinks deliver a rapid rush of sugar to your body, which over time can lead to insulin resistance and inflammation. So once in a while it’s fine. Every day junk meal is not advisable.

3. Fast and dead food..

These foods are called fast food only for this reason. They are prepared quickly and easily, but the question is ‘is our food prepared properly?’. No one in this world has the patience to wait for healthy food as long as it tastes good. since junk food is a fast food but it adds a lot of bad nutritional energy to our body. Empty energy causes a lot of discomfort in our health conditions. So just don’t go for fast food, it can be risky.! Therefore, learn the art of saying no to such foods.

4. More salty and spicy…

Usually in junk food we find increased salt and spice levels. This may be very tasty, but it is secretly starting to harm your body. Increased salt level will directly lead to increase in blood pressure levels. In recent times we have seen many young people suffering from blood pressure, high blood pressure etc. this is solely due to the unhealthy eating habits. In this fast-paced world, not only fast food is increasing, but also the number of diseases. We all know that salt is an ambiguous ingredient. Neither salt should be more, nor should it be less, it will ruin the dish either way. The same ambiguity analogy can also be given for the human body.

5. High calorie content.

Fast food is tasty, convenient food served at a reasonable price. Many people even after knowing that they contain more calories, they visit these restaurants for their main meal. We need about 400-600 calories in a normal healthy meal. But this junk food meal gives us about 200 and odd extra calories compared to a normal meal. These extra calories accumulate in the body and are not used to release energy. These calories are collected in the blood vessel and will lead to increased pressure in the heart to pump the blood. All these eventually end up in hypertension and other heart related disorders.

6. Low quality food served.

We don’t need an expert opinion on junk food to say that they don’t use the best quality ingredients. They make delicious food from the cheapest parts of the product available. When you eat, you don’t even have the slightest idea what and which part you are eating came from. So it is better to get the necessary ingredients home and prepare at home. These junk food preparation units place more emphasis on quantity than quality.

7. Food safety will not be maintained.

Sad to say that many employees who are employed to prepare food do not receive the necessary training and education in food safety. People preparing these burgers would not have washed their hands before serving your food. These can lead to food poisoning. Some infectious diseases are spread through unclean food and unhealthy maintenance. These junk food preparation units do not pay much attention to clean and healthy environment, it is because people are not much concerned about it. Usually it is human tendency that we always like food prepared by someone else more than food prepared by us no matter how impure it is.

8. Poor nutritional value.

Usually we think burgers, fries are more tasty and tempting. Here, the preferred cooking method is “frying”. Any food for that matter, deep fried would be more greasy, will be high in fat. On a daily basis, there is a certain amount of proteins and vitamins that are necessary for a healthy lifestyle. Although these foods have proteins and vitamins, deep frying the food will weaken these good effects. Artificial sweeteners in desserts provide poor nutritional value. People should not eat food for the sake of good taste, sometimes we should also decide our food based on nutritional value.

9. Scary preservatives.

“Oh my god! My food looks so delicious…!”

Every one of us would have had this feeling when we saw our delicious junk food.. But do you know the fact that they look so colorful and mouth watering because of chemical colors and preservatives? Yes, a hard fact behind a delicious junk food is that they would have used colors and preservatives more than the required amount. There are healthy preservatives available in the market for cooking, but these are a bit expensive. Therefore, people go for cheaper and unhealthy products. These ideas trick people by making the food more beautiful than it is.

10. Animal fat added.

Do you have any idea how badly animals are kept when they are taken to slaughter? Well, thank God if you haven’t. Many of these factory farmed animals are kept in such a small space that they are forced to stand in their own feces. To prevent the animals from getting sick in these conditions, they are pumped full of antibiotics which end up in our food. We often don’t want to worry much about the ingredients used in snacks. Just like we think KFC barbecue and fries are delicious… but we don’t think the chicken used was healthy or not. These facts not only make us stop eating junk food but also make us vegetarian by choice. Many new diseases such as bird flu, swine flu are caused by consuming such infected meat.

We are left in the lurch, between these binaries not knowing what to follow but harboring a desire to follow at least one of them. All the while we don’t realize that both are harmful to our health and well-being.

In the age of burgers and fries, fitness is the cherished enemy. A survey conducted by TOI in January 2015 concluded that 10% of children in government schools were obese, a stark contrast to 25% from private schools.

Setting aside the alarming percentage of unhealthy children in both these cases, we must be aware of the economic factor. There have been shocking studies that have brought out the deplorable state of the food served to students in government schools, leading to malnutrition and even diseases in some cases.

How blind are we to this obvious divide? Or are we just too wrapped up in our lives to worry about anything that might cause us trouble? Do we use more, do we eat more because we have more, or is it just a vicious cycle? Don’t we as citizens have the moral responsibility to reduce our consumption in the other parts of society’s interest, if not donate?

An occasional treat is all well and good, but it shouldn’t become the norm. Today’s mantra seems to be “I have, want to spend”. Where does it take us? If not for society’s sake, we must reduce our material consumption and do ourselves a favor. If our day is incomplete without a visit to a nearby Starbucks, it’s time to reevaluate our choices and change for the better.

Simply whipping up witty one-liners on Facebook or a hashtag on Twitter won’t help one bit. We need to get out of the comfort of our homes to create change for this generation and the next.
